Credits
Every moving image in this zoo was made by someone else, released under an open licence, and used here on those terms. Nothing was bought and nothing was scraped. Where a licence requires attribution we give it; where it does not, we give it anyway.
What we did to it: each clip was trimmed to a short looping window and re-encoded for streaming, and nothing else — no retouching, no colour grading, no change of speed. Each portrait states its own window against the length of the source it came from.
The microscopists
Almost every portrait in this collection traces to a very small number of people who film organisms carefully and then give the results away. That is the only reason this museum can exist without a budget.
How the science is checked
The words in this zoo are not ours alone. Each portrait's factual claims go through an accuracy review by someone who knows the biology, and each portrait's hook line goes through a curatorial one — both on Tinkerism, in public, with the decisions on record. Nothing appears in the gallery until it has been through that. We do not put badges on the animals to say so; you can go and read the record instead.
Media rights and organism identification are not crowd work. We carry those ourselves, because getting an organism's identity wrong would undo everything else on the wall.
Haeckel
Kunstformen der Natur plates appear in this museum in the Haeckel Room, which carries its own wall label about the man who drew them. It is not a flattering one, and it is not optional.
